1969 Awake on Education - A Sore Spot for Me

my father would have started college 49 years ago this week.

about three months earlier, the week he graduated high school, the awake!

magazine came out with some very clear direction to teenagers.

I was 15 at the time that awake came out. I remember my dad took me aside and went over that article. He told me I will not have to worry about any higer education after high school. He also said all through my childhood I would never grow old and die and armagadon would most likely come before I graduated from school. As we all know time has keep marching on. The borg is still vomiting out of their mouths this same old shit. How stupid I have been all these years. The only good thing we did was make sure our two boys went to a vocational school to learn a good trade. You should have seen the heat I got from elders and co's and others for encouraging that.

Arguments I’ve Had: Historical Accuracy and the Bible

when i was a jw and still living with my parents i remember the way my father held what could almost be described as contempt for archeologists, paleontologists, and other scientists who dared to try explain what happened in past.

he justified this attidtude with the argument that these people don’t have enough evidence to make such claims with any certainty.

however, i see now that his viewpoint was more likely a defense mechanism to protect his presupposed conclusion that everything described in the bible actually happened.

due to the fact there are about 27,000 members of this religion that are known pedophiles, and the information about it is kept in a secret database file, i wonder how many lurking jw's as well as others are aware of the severity of this problem?

remember, it's 27,000 pedophiles that they know about.

Hello flipper, I hope this finds you well. I have been reading this post off and on for a while now and yes I was and so were my two daughter's in laws and many other I knew through the years. Here's a thought and I may be to sensitive in my feelings on this. Are not all children in the borg being sexually abuse when they are made to sit in on gb rants on sex from the platform. Let' face it the wt.borg is not a safe place for young children. Abuse comes in many forms and age inappropriate talks to me is just as abusive. How could it not! Their teaching of how everyone in the world is going to be killed, the fear that there is a demon behind every bush and telling the flock they are Good for nothing slaves desensitizes people thinking.

That is for me why the wt. BORG is a breeding ground for such abuse. I may be wrong but that is how I feel. Take care. Still Totally ADD

i was recently given a gift of ancestry.com and i’m curious if anyone else has used this service?.

My wife gave one to me was a x-mas gift a few years ago. I was always told I had native American and African American in my back ground. It never showed up but it showed I had Greek, Italian and Irish. The rest of my heritage I knew about. I was disappointed about no native and African American in my background but now I know why I always liked Greek and Italian food so much. Still Totally ADD

Were You Close To Your Non JW Family?

i was thinking of how little i know about my father’s side of the family.

i recently inquired about ancestry.com and i’ve come to the realization that even the closest sides of my family via my father, are unknown to me .

what a shame that jehovah’s witnesses kept us apart.

When my wife and I first meant and being a born-in and she a convert she would go on and on about all her relative's their names and and the history of them and then she ask me about mine. All I could tell her was about my 3 grandparents and my brother and his family. I told her I knew little about anyone else on my side of the family. My father believe we should have nothing to do with anyone of them because they were not part of the borg. For most of my life I have known little about my side of the family until a few years ago due to some help from a dear member on this board, Lois lane looking for superman. I was able to connect with a cousin in IL I did not know about. Since then I have learned a lot about my side of the family.

I did a ancestry.com from that I have learned my lineage goes back to 1650 and maybe even longer in this country. With my wife's side going back to the mayflower both sides have been in North America a long time. Good thread mlmimus. Thanks. Still Totally ADD

her mother has alzheimer and is in a care facility for the rest of her life.

So sorry to hear what you are going through. The other day at the farmers market I saw a witness family pulling their cart billboard behind them. Teenage son following the father in his 40's. All dressed in suits and ties from what it look like from the 1980's. Very poor looking. All the wt is doing is shooting themselves in the foot by teaching everyone to live a simple so called life.
